As early as the sixties international scientists declared that asbestos was a carcinogenic substance. Not only the people who are directly exposed to this substance, but also their housemates, as well as the people living near the factories where asbestos is being processed run a higher risk of getting cancer. Asbest, the Silent Killer digs into the problem of the gigantic amount of asbestos incorporated in society. Why was this substance not banned sooner? How could the industrial interests prevail over public health and why does this still happen in India, for instance? In the film asbestos victims in Holland and Belgium are interviewed. We also see how tons of asbestos are still being shipped to the Third World every day. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
