Mudbrain is an account of the development process of a film, that is gradually transforming into a metaphor of our society. Film-maker Wendela Scheltema sets interviews with young directors alongside a lecture by the Rotterdam culture philosopher Henk Oosterling about power, the urge to control, and speed. In simple images, the filmmaker depicts a world in which the image and its speed are predominant. However, to capture reality and to try and fathom the truth through introspection is a long way from controlling that reality. Scheltema: "Perhaps the truth is in the fact of the movement in itself; maybe the point is to ask the right questions." (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
