Now that both parties in Northern Ireland have laid down their arms, the withdrawal of the arbitrator, the British army, can gradually commence. The catholic minority has always regarded the British soldiers more as opponents than mediators. Not incomprehensibly so, as is clear from this documentary about human rights violations in Northern Ireland. The film covers about thirty years, from the onset of the conflict until today. In particular the catholic inhabitants of Northern Ireland have fallen victim to the severe actions by the British occupying forces. Violent house searches, fatal arrests, indiscriminate confinement without trial, plastic bullets used against demonstrators, the Prevention of Terrorism Act sanctioned it all. People involved describe what it is like to live in a country where the authorities commit violations of the most elementary human rights. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
