This documentary shows the activities around the demonstrations during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968. It deals with issues like resistance to conscription, the increase of coffeeshops for G.I.'s, and the development of alternative media, like the underground Rat. Fruchter and Douglas recorded the preliminary meetings and the rap sessions, but also the confrontations with police in the streets of Chicago. Besides, attention is paid to the problems the movement had to have their message conveyed by the conventional media. With its broad vision, Summer '68 provides a clear idea of the philosophy, tactics, and problems of the American student movement in 1968. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
