Tritoni, a far right member of parliament from Livorno, is frustrated by the compromising approach adopted by his party, and decides to take direct action: the organization of a coup to overturn the democratic government. To do so, he involves some serving or retired soldiers, and together they concoct a plan to gain control of strategic sites. But this new rag-tag army fails in its aims and everything goes wrong on the day. However, their action is subsequently slyly used by the government to justify an authoritarian policy.
