Jacques Tourneur definitely has better films than this adventure movie, which seems to want to resemble Casablanca, but it just doesn't measure up. There is a romantic aspect, there is a rogue character, there is an adventurous dimension, but overall it doesn't have anywhere near the same strength as the older, legendary film. Jacques Tourneur certainly has a talent for creating a great atmosphere with his black-and-white camera work. ()
