In a remote Castilian village in 1940, a bright eight-year-old with a wonderfully fertile imagination struggles in the oppressively hive-like and spiritually empty home her bee-keeping father heads. Sometimes one discovers really beautiful gems. Here, it's beautifully evident how "Frankenstein" isn't just an allegory, although it simultaneously is one. This film shows that we want something that we cannot achieve, or that it is possible to achieve it in a way that is not traditional and that others may not like. Therein lies the immense power of the film.
