This film describes the narrator's childhood, the years before and after the Hungarian Soviet Republic, in a burlesque and fabulous style and with the humour of a child's fantasy. A middle-class intellectual family headed by a good-hearted humanist editor and an infantile but clever Mother, prepare to emigrate to Vienna, but do not get farther than Sopron, to the mansion of the hot-blooded brother-in-law. Uncle Viktor's bloody hunters' training turns Father against him and the family suddenly returns home. When "world literature falls down" with the bookshelf, all are aware that fatal events are about to happen. (official distributor synopsis)
