The family history of Lebanese artist Rayyane Tabet, working on the cutting edge of architecture, word craft and sculpture, unfolds as a thrilling spy story. The family history of the Lebanese artist Rayyane Tabet is closely connected to a famous archaeological site in Syria: Tell Halaf. It was discovered in 1889 by the German diplomat Max von Oppenheim, whose secretary was Tabet’s great-grandfather. Meanwhile, his great-grandfather was on a secret mission: spying for the government in Beirut. On the cutting edge of architecture, word craft and sculpture, Rayyane Tabet couches this extraordinary story in a 21st century form. In imitation of Tabet’s work, Displaced Pieces unravels a story about war, destruction and reconstruction through art. (Nederlands Film Festival)
