The film is set at the end of the 18th century and records the struggle between the rising citizenry and the land-owning gentry, scared of losing its power. Kramler, chief justice of Lőcse shoots the beloved dog of Görgey, the deputy-lieutenant. The savage hothead, Görgey kills him in revenge. The council of Lőcse orders that until Görgey is found, the town must mourn and live quietly. Fabriczius, the ambitious young chief justice, finally has him arrested and executed, but he has to pay a high price. He loses his fiancée, Rozáli. The hiding girl, living under a pseudonym, turns out to be Görgey's only daughter. (official distributor synopsis)
