This simple story, both nostalgic and exalting, introduces the audiences to the main stages in the life of the pioneer film director. Formally interesting are the performances by Mélies's real-life wife and the commentary read by their grand-daughter Marie-Georges and former colleague François Lallement. Despite certain clumsiness, the illustrative demonstrations of special effects or the scenes uncovering the background of film-making during the early years are truly interesting.
