August 28, 1962. On this Saturday morning, as usual, uncle Simon provides the citizens of the Communist state - entrusted to his care - with the news, good advice and musical entertainment through the local housing block radio. He and his wife contend that nothing happens on this day, either, and that probably nothing will happen in about 30 years to come. Yet something still happens: The Communist Youth Organisation announces a competition of talents, and the winners may travel to the Union of World Youth to be held in Helsinki. Also, La Dolce Vita is on in the movies, starring Anita Ekberg. The unskilled worker, Bánki Attila, is setting up a pop-group in order to - by way of the competition - get out to Canada to visit his beloved who has lived there for four years. He does not notice the love of Angela, living next door. Also others hope to make it to the West through the competition. However, during the district final, Attilas and his friends eyes are accidentally opened up to the fact the winners have already been selected, and the uniforms have all been tailored to the required size. The boys have to give up their hopes and accept that they are to live here for some more time. They will spend that time by singing How I adore life. (official distributor synopsis)
