Nobody (2021)

English A rugged action flick with a great Odenkirk. Nobody has no ambitions to impress with the script, Najšuller serves up brutal, grubby action, carried out by a scruffy old wreck beaten down by family life.

Video Kings (2020)

English What nostalgia. It took me back to those wonder days of my childhood. Excellent observations and surprising information. But it does omit to mention the main benefit of "speed dubbing" which was the amazingly unreal lines that became folklore amongst my peers. I liked the final comments about crazy men. And the admission by the detective is the icing on the cake.

The Father (2020)

English A depressing look into almost all of our futures, this time without robots or an atomic holocaust. We don’t even get a chemical weapons attack or a pandemic, but I found this absolutely blood-chilling. Hopkins’ one-man-show about ageing sets off on an adventure journey that you really don’t want to go on. Full of surprises, confusion, a caustic feeling that everybody has turned against you and keep on hiding your wrist watch. Perfect dialogs, precise directing, beautifully sad music.

Black Mirror - Crocodile (2017) (episode)

English Hillcoat’s feeling for image and the naturalistic murders lift Crocodile above mediocre. The confused, rushed decisions and mistakes are excellently acted. While the overall ambiguity is interesting, it does much to wipe out the catharsis needed at the end.

Flickering Lights (2000)

English Either this is a gangster movie disguised as a relaxing to meditative re-modeling of life... or it’s the other way round? For some god-forsaken reason, four detectives from Copenhagen open a village pub. Excellently acted characters with an explanatory flashback into their youth makes a perfect sauce leading to a powerful lesson which, despite being a lie,you really want to believe. Jensen knows how to construct stories in an original, down-to-earth and humorous way. The hunter with the machine gun during the finale rocks. You like staring?... Big, fat cow.

Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)

English A cynical parody on murder stories, set in the decadent world of modern art. These picky, snobbish caricatures headed by Gyllenhaal die deserved deaths and it’s quite fun to watch. Gilroy isn’t making a horror here and doesn’t employ any cheap things to shock you, it’s just more of an unnerving movie. Perhaps he is making up for a trauma of childhood when he was told that he’ll never be an artist when he got an F in Art. I wouldn’t look for any deeper meaning here.

Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)

English The tuk tuk is terribly sidelined. That was the only thing that made the trailer any good. Raya is a screenplay mishmash trying so hard to be original, but luckily it remains fundamentally the classic Disney movie that we know and love. An refreshing world full of colors, a funny gang and an ending that looks like it came straight out of Infinity War/Endgame.

Chaos Walking (2021)

English A super topic, solid acting and wobbly directing. The potential of the depicted world is huge and it’s a shame that it’s not put to full use. Unfortunately you can see that it was reedited and reshot. The ending is particularly shoddy. It definitely doesn’t deserve a complete rejection even though I’d like to see #releasethelimancut, Chaos Walking is too intriguing for that. I’ll try the books.

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)

English By this axe I rule! A perfect movie for kids, quoting from old Verne books. The story combines Japanese cartoons from the sixties with the screenplay for Batman v Superman (spoiler: instead of Martha there is a flashy: "I don’t give a shit…"). Both fights are a feast for the eyes. Inventive, dynamic and beautifully filmed. This calls for a movie theater. Whether it is the lights of Hong Kong or paddling in the water, the action looks like a wet dream of all (once child) monster movies fans. Damn the physics and the listless characters. You don’t go to the theater to see a movie like this because of the logic. To the movie theater. Sniff. Whiskey is a savior. I’ll have another...

Black Mirror - Hated in the Nation (2016) (episode)

English A morality piece about the harmfulness of the social networks combined with a horror about killer bees. Every hater should see it. The screen play works excellently with the unraveling of the facts …that’s impossible… it’s got military-grade encryption…oh, wait a minute! Maybe it should have got tougher at the end, #the banners were crying out for more response. Kelly Macdonald’s brutal Scottish accent, who is perfect for the role of cynical cop, is music to my ears. See?
