I Am All Girls (2021)

English The film as such has a number of flaws, but I can't say it's useless if for no other reason than that it's trying to convey something important to the public. I'm not familiar with South African filmmaking, so I can't say how good or bad it is by their standards. The format didn’t really appeal to me, it came off more like a sort of collection of parts of one big case. For me, the fact that it wasn't properly put together, not to mention the choppy editing, made it hard to get into. I also think it's too bad that they burned right through something that could have been an interesting plot at pretty much the first chance they got.

Can't Help Falling in Love (2017)

English Too bad they didn't make this movie about fifteen years earlier, it would have been right up my alley. The plot and the predictability of the storyline is really on the level of an under-twelve fairy tale. But you have to start somewhere.

Emily in Paris (2020) (series)

English Netflix understands today's times very well, which is why they bring a little European spice to an American series. I honestly thought I was already a slightly more discerning viewer, but I guess I'm just kidding myself. Because I really can't remember when I've relaxed so easily and nicely with something. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that the more superficial Emily gets, the more insanely dressed she gets, the more she manages to make literally every photo or sentence go viral, the more people who hated her start liking her for no reason, the more fickle she gets, the more I enjoyed watching her. It couldn't be further from reality, and I couldn’t be gladder.

1000 Miles from Christmas (2021)

English The same thing they serve us every year before Christmas, only this time in Spanish. So if you're tired of English, this year you can have 1000 Miles from Christmas for a change. Apart from the language, it won't be that much of a change, but how else can you make a movie about a guy who falls so hard for a woman that he starts thinking he's in love with Christmas? It comes complete with Santa’s workshop too, so you won't miss anything.

Little Women (2019)

English I'll be honest, I was expecting a movie that might change my life. But even though I thought it was a nice flick and I liked the girls, it didn't happen. There is no need to debate the performances, they are so natural and convincing that I completely forgot about all the actresses' previous roles and for a while I just saw them as Little Women. Slightly less perfect, in my opinion, was the script. It made it difficult for me to orient myself in time, so I gave up after a while and instead of enjoying the story I just enjoyed watching the atmosphere, the costumes, and basically a female world where the male element intrudes a little less than we’re used to.

Dash & Lily (2020) (series)

English The obvious attempt to make Dash and Lily the most interesting people in New York was pretty annoying. And so they try to tell us that we're watching two marginalized introverts who just happen to find so many friends walking the streets who do things for them you wouldn't normally ask of even your closest friends, without so much as a thank you. At the same time, they were pretty great, even without playing hard-to-get. So, it’s enough to get you in the Christmas spirit, don't ask for more.

Stateless (2020) (series)

English I'm surprised how low the ratings are for Stateless. Especially since this is a series that definitely deserves attention. What's interesting about it, for example, is that it has multiple planes. The stories of the individual characters in the detention camp are so strong that I had a hard time staying impartial from the mass of helplessness. And then there's the excellent Yvonne Strahovski, who urgently desires the exact opposite of what everyone else wants and finds herself in a bizarre situation, while her past is gradually revealed. Very well acted, very believable. You can feel for all parties and still feel completely lost...

Stuck Together (2021)

English I was hoping this period wouldn't be long enough to make movies about, but of course it had to come to that. But Stuck Together proves that it can be done in a clever, funny, lighthearted, and ultimately very moving way. Once again I'm surprised at how low the film has been rated. Personally, I would have expected it to score much, much higher.

The Trip (2021)

English Check it out, it's really funny, he said. And although it's not a comedy the way I normally think of them, he was right. The comic aspect here, among other things, works brilliantly. The characters are likable and lukewarm at the same time, making for a rather unique spectacle that you definitely don't want to walk away from.

Three Days of Christmas (2019) (series)

English I have very mixed feelings about this one. At times, I let myself believe I was watching something special, and yet I couldn't stand the cast. Plus, the switching of actresses in each episode was a bit confusing for me and I had a hard time keeping track of who was who. The last episode really drags down the show, unfortunately. It's just so much chatter and overacting and the original charm is gone. Even the choice of actresses wasn't always ideal. A weaker 3 stars.
