Rocky Balboa (2006)

English A legend like Rocky Balboa could hardly have asked for a better retirement. More than ever, Stallone gave me the impression that he literally connected with Rocky, imprinting him with heart and soul, and it shows not only in his great performance, but especially in his sensitive and sincere direction. The film is a beautiful depiction of perseverance, indomitable desire, and the power of friendship, and though the story takes a predictable and well-trodden path, it still manages to strap us firmly into our seats and knock us off our feet at the end. I enjoyed it, plus I definitely figured out who Stallone's most famous and best movie character is: the Italian Stallion Rocky Balboa. 4.5*

Thank You for Smoking (2005)

English It starts as a very enjoyable and imaginative comedy, but then it slightly loses both its wit and, unfortunately, its originality. It's a good thing it has the great Aaron Eckhart in the lead role, he’s really convincing and better than good at talking. In sum, just another in a line of comedies that don't disappoint, but also don't dazzle. For me 70%.

28 Weeks Later (2007)

English A relentless action flick with a simple plot scheme based on a teenage killing video game. It entertains but doesn't fulfil the horror essence of the zombie genre despite having the ultimate bloodthirsty creatures. A more or less haphazard sequence of spectacular scenes with no tangible atmosphere; this is exactly the reason Romero has remained the rightful master of this genre after the turn of the millennium... 60%

Back to the Future (1985)

English It's been almost thirty years, but this sci-fi adventure comedy still holds its place among the genre's elite, and there's no sign of that changing. After all, it's not every day that such an original, entertaining and perfectly thought-out script is born in the minds of screenwriters, even under the guidance of directorial wizards like Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg. Just great, I can't but praise it. The visuals are stunning even after all these years, the unravelling of the story is simply flawless, and the duo of M.J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd were probably born for this legendary three-part series, and the way the creators dealt with the bar they set for the second part is truly incredible. 100%

Z pekla štěstí (1999)

English The beginning of the end of the good Czech fairytales. Hardly watchable rubbish, kept afloat only by the beautiful Michaela Kuklová and a few well executed scenes. Otherwise, awful.

Dinotopia: The Series II (2002) (series)

English The idea is very interesting, but the final form is terribly bloated, cluttered and not very imaginative. I wish Dinotopia had pushed Jurassic Park aside to become my childhood favourite. If it wasn't for David Thewlis, whom I was rooting for as the bad guy at the end, I would hardly have finished watching it at all.

The Dictator (2012)

English Finally, Cohen again shows himself in the best possible light. His dictator is no different in content from the yokel reporter Borat, but it’s clear that Sacha is again one step ahead, knows what he wants and purposely goes after it. Plus, with his massive beard and unlimited power, he's even more fitting than he is with a Kazakh flag or a mankini, the humour is no longer twisted solely around raunchy or downright controversial themes, and the presence of several stars in the cast suggests that Aladeen will be far more accessible and thoughtful than all of Cohen's previous characters combined. The film has its weak spots and some of the jokes are a bit dodgy, but on the whole it’s a precisely measured, brisk and imaginative satire, the basis of which is better not to think about at all and instead just let yourself ride the wave of Cohen's specific humour, which you will enjoy to the fullest. I didn't expect much after the tragic Bruno, but The Dictator managed to entertain and relax me all the more...

Starsky & Hutch (2004)

English Say what you want, but Stiller and Wilson together is for me a guarantee of quality, which is fully confirmed here. An enjoyable action comedy that is brilliantly interwoven with the atmosphere of the unforgettable 70s, hilarious jokes and several references to classic films. The central duo doesn't need any comments, both of them really enjoy their roles and it’s thanks to them that some passages maintain the necessary insight and flair, without which something like this could never happen. Todd Phillips doesn't serve any delicious genre delicacy that would make me roll with laughter, but as a well-seasoned and edited appetizer Starsky & Hutch will always work perfectly.

Escape from Alcatraz (1979)

English Siegel and Eastwood at their best. I always wonder about the things that could go wrong with such a difficult plan, and escaping from that impregnable fortress is simply out of the question, but I always enjoy the final deliverance all the more and never get tired of it. A classic that will never get old. 85%
