A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (2018)

English This is so stupid I have to watch the third episode. The corruption in giving away state money, the hacking of the state archives, the journalism, Sahid... it's all just so stupid it hurts. It's just... I think as time goes on, as I watch more and more of this Christmas TV garbage, I get more and more into it. :-D Otherwise, I'd give it one less star.

A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019)

English I love all the Cinderella stories of all varieties so much, it's quite a guilty pleasure for me, so I'll occasionally close both eyes and let the bullshit intoxicate me. But this? Good God, this is truly awful. Very, very bad. A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish offers nothing, adds nothing, doesn't evoke the Christmas spirit, doesn't impress with its acting or singing, doesn't impress with the story either.nothing, adds nothing, doesn't evoke the Christmas spirit, doesn't impress with the acting or singing, doesn't impress with the story either. Unfortunately, it doesn't even fall into the average, but rather into the sewage. A waste of time.

Admiral Yamamoto (2011)

English Without a doubt a very interesting insight into the life of one of the greatest military figures of the first half of the 20th century in Japan; but unfortunately the narrative style and flow of the film didn't sit well with me today. Otherwise, I think it would have been a star higher. If you're interested in WW2 in the Pacific, this is definitely a piece that will bring you enrichment.

Afro-ken (2001)

English Even though we do a nice study of Afro-ken – find out what he's like, what his genealogy is – and even though he was definitely made by a guy who was on something (though it may not seem like it from the interviews in the piece, I'm firmly convinced of it, and I'm also firmly convinced that if I took just half a shot of the same shit the author did, I'd be high for life), I have to admit that the best part of the whole anime was the song. Catchy, catchy, just a hit. :-D Plus the English was understandable (but who knows, maybe an English native worked on it...). It's just that, despite the psychedelia, the softness, and the color, it's really a boring story about a strange Afro-ken and his ilk. And when I say boring, I mean really boring. It was boring even though I watched it after studying vocabulary and grammar. In other words, extremely boring. But the song is really good, just enough for that one star. It's at the beginning, so turn it on and then you can turn it off with no regrets.

After the Ball (2015)

English Basically the same as every Cinderella story, even the division of people into good and bad was like a fairytale. In the end the good guys were pleased and the bad guys were punished. The only plus of this movie is Kate dressing up as Nate, the voice and gesticulations were perfect. But other than that, the performances... no one's working too hard here. I put it in the category of those Disney-type movies like Cinderella again. It was really lacking sparkle; if it had been paced nicely, I'd add a star. If you want something to fall sleep to, this is perfect because you won't have a compulsive need to know what's going to happen next, nor will you get any wake-up calls.

After the Rain (2018) (series)

English Such a gentle spectacle with that rather characteristic Shōjo animation – lots of bubbles and glitter, but the backgrounds are bland and often static. It doesn't really matter here, because it's all about the rain, finding yourself against a backdrop of what many would consider to be very strange and disparate loves. Each episode goes by quickly, so you gobble up these cherries without even realizing it, but unfortunately you may get the feeling that you haven't actually learned anything. Still, it's the kind of sweet thing that doesn't push the envelope, the heroine is her own person and doesn't let it get to her, for which I have to give a thumbs up. It's a completely human show and I wouldn't look for any drama behind it. It was nice and I am looking forward to the live-action treatment, because this could look very good in it.

Agatha Christie: Poirot - Murder on the Orient Express (2010) (episode)

English Poirot can be seen here as a broken man. A MAN. His grey brain cells still work, but that unshakable faith of his with which he judges all criminals has been shattered, which is why this treatment is the best of all for me, not to mention that it surpasses even the book. Very successful, not to mention a perfect plot and an excellent climax. And of course great performances, because without them it would have been half-hearted. Even though I know Murder on the Orient Express like the back of my hand, I watched it slowly with the feeling that I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen – I just genuinely enjoyed it.

Agatha Christie: Poirot - Sad Cypress (2003) (episode)

English I'm going through an Agatha phase. I've read so many of her books that it wasn't that hard to guess what it was all about. Still very engagingly made, the acting is already a classic in the Poirot saga. So if you're in the mood for that ridiculous little Belgian man, why not check out Sad Cypress. A better 3 stars.

A Gentleman's Dignity (2012) (series)

English Unfortunately, I only found the ethics teacher sympathetic when she wasn't dealing with romantic relationships, but with anything else – i.e. student problems. The same could be said of the others. They were fine as long as they weren't dealing with those horrible relationship problems, crying, screaming, and generally doing stupid things. Not to mention that for the first eight episodes I really didn't like the show, or rather, I didn’t care. Yes, the relationships between the guys are great. This foursome friendship thing is fine. That alone could earn that one star with a back left foot. The same for the "flashback" scene at the beginning of each episode. That was the one thing I always looked forward to. But otherwise? Seo Yi-Soo is just a shy, virginal, and pubescent, and I couldn't stand her like that considering how the show was pretending to be mature and above it all (again, we're talking in terms of romantic relationships). I found Im Tae San and Hong Se Ra's relationship the most interesting, they were a lot of fun. The rest of the relationships were just hysterical snotty stuff. Especially the widower and the young Meari, who was weeping in practically every episode. I understand why the show is popular, but aside from the friendships between the four men, it just doesn't have much to offer. If that wasn't there, it would just be a bad clichéd series. Not to mention it needs to be knocked down a rating. So for me, a better 2 stars.

A Girl & Three Sweethearts (2016) (series)

English Actually perfect for girls – the main character is surrounded by three attractive guys, plus she's very good at what she does. It's basically a series full of the kind of stuff you can come across in romance series, the only thing missing is amnesia... The love triangle, the "dark" past, the shyness of the heroine who can't keep her mouth shut, the first love perfect in everything he does, nice to the point that I absolutely hate his character; the second one, on the other hand, is rude and hides his good intentions behind his rudeness, and just... yeah, all those romantic and comedy clichés are there. Unfortunately at the expense of a proper story or interesting characters. Fine as a summer romance, but that's all there is to it. The acting isn't even great enough to make you want to see it. It's better to watch Hiroin shikkaku, where the two central characters are also together in similar roles, but it works out better time-wise. On the other hand, it has a good OST, basically above average compared to other Japanese summer series. But it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. If you like all the soap opera clichés in one place, check it out, you’ll enjoy it.
