LOVEhunt (2019)

English Apparently, I still keep a certain level of naivety, because deep down I was secretly hoping to get a quality Czech comedy. Well, I didn’t... In a way, almost all romantic comedies are the same – the plot is painfully predictable. LOVEhunt was no exception. It was clear from the beginning who would end up with whom. There was obviously a number of obstacles, which was to be expected. The problem was that the film was really cringeworthy at times. I like Evelyn as a comedian, but as Eva Kramerová, the actress, she was very unconvincing. I didn't understand the character of Eva played by Romana Goščíková at all and I was far from satisfied, but... the film also managed to entertain me at times, Ester Geislerová gave a great performance (her eyelid twitch at the wedding was perfect), Jaroslav Plesl totally nailed his small role, and Jakub Prachař’s performance was a nice surprise as well.

Bad Teacher (2011)

English Negatives: 1) I’m not very fond of Cameron Diaz. 2) Jason Segel's acting seems like a bad joke to me. 3) The authors could have gotten more out of Elizabeth. 4) Predictable plot. Positives: 1) Cameron Diaz wasn’t all that annoying in this film. 2) Justin Timberlake played exactly the kind of homo I consider him to be. 3) the character of Lynn Davis - confident and determined under all circumstances. 4) criticism of small-town hypocrisy.

Wild Target (2010)

English I have a soft spot for Bill Nighy's quirky acting and for British comedy as such. Emily Blunt was the film’s eye-candy (in a damn interesting way), I laughed with both Ruperts and Martin Freeman lit everything up with his deranged smile. A satisfying experience.

Zombieland (2009)

English The story wasn’t complicated at all, the plot was sometimes illogical, but I was satisfied anyway. I liked the overall execution, and I was also pleased with the great cast (including Bill Murray's cameo).

Water for Elephants (2011)

English It was a real treat for me to watch Robert Pattinson express a whole range of emotions with a single facial expression. Zoolander must be one of his favorite films because this was textbook Magnum. The story was actually a standard American love story, only the creators placed it in a rather non-standard setting. The only actor whose performance was impressive was Christoph Waltz in another one of his manic roles, but that's about it. Plus, the film’s title is awfully misleading, there is only one elephant in it, and despite the prohibition, it isn't about water either.

The International (2009)

English It wasn’t boring, Clive Owen is an actor I always look forward to seeing, and I usually enjoy films about the fight against unscrupulous capitalism (and banks in particular), but there were some logic holes in this story of a modern Don Quixote and his friends. I think the authors could have made a little more effort.

Big Little Lies - Season 1 (2017) (season)

English After a shaky start, the story started unfolding in an interesting way, the authors provided more and more insight into all the main characters. I ended up having a surprisingly good time. 4*+

My Boss's Daughter (2003) Boo!

English There’s nothing good about this film, and the acting performances are pathetic. And you know what? I won't waste any more time on a pointless analysis. “Boo!” is too low a rating.

R.I.P.D. (2013)

English I didn't get to laugh much, and I was really annoyed by the film’s predictable plot. Things could hardly be saved by Ryan Reynolds and his standard poker face or Jeff Bridges’ garrulous character. It wasn’t a disaster, but an average rating is enough.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

English It was basically like a Bond film whose creators shamefully wasted the opportunity for witty dialogue. If they hadn’t, agent Solo wouldn’t have gotten on my nerves so much and agent Kurjakin might not have seemed like a Terminator with poor software. It could have been a great film if only Guy Ritchie hadn’t forgotten to put more zing into it. 4*-
