American Honey (2016)

English Visually, musically, and even in terms of acting, I liked it a lot, but watching a story where almost nothing happens for nearly three hours was quite challenging for me. If it was an hour shorter, with less unnecessary filler, I would probably add a star. (65%)

Glory (2016)

English If I found a bundle of money like that without anyone noticing, I definitely wouldn't go to the police like Canko; instead, I would treat myself and sweeten my life a bit. All the time I wondered why he didn't at least keep something and as the problems grew I felt more and more sorry for him. However, some of the situations in which he found himself were almost tragicomic. On the other hand, the self-centered careerist Julia often deserved a good scolding. If I were her husband, I would definitely give her a piece of my mind. Stefan Denolyubov absolutely thrilled me in the role of Canko Petrov and Margita Gosheva as Julia Staykova wasn't bad at all either. And what about the resolution of the story? It was perfect. It’s a really great movie! For its sheer originality, I have to give it five stars.

Che: Part One (2008)

English A huge disappointment, and from Steven Soderbergh no less. I tend to seek out biopics, but this one failed miserably. On one hand, uninspiring propaganda, and on the other hand, boundless boredom. Even the traditionally great Benicio Del Toro couldn't save it.

Agnus dei (2016)

English An exceedingly gritty story set behind the walls of a Benedictine monastery in Poland during World War II. Rape can be a lifelong trauma for many women, but what a nun experienced after such a brutal act is probably beyond the imagination of most of us non-believers. Another equally important problem occurred in the post-war period. How did society accept these disgraced women who had also become pregnant? It was definitely no walk in the park... When some of the Benedictine nuns have more or less managed to come to terms with their fate, in this film the Mother Superior is inhumanly hard on them by basically sacrificing their children to God soon after birth. It is certainly a strong theme, excellently handled in all aspects in The Innocents, and it raises many questions that touch on our dark past.

Men & Chicken (2015)

English A totally bizarre black tragicomedy! I can imagine that some viewers will be thrilled and others will wonder about what they just watched... I'm somewhere in the middle of the road; on the one hand, I had a good time, but on the other hand, it was sometimes entertaining to the point of being unbearable, and I felt a slight sense of disgust at times. The scale tipped upwards, however, thanks to the quartet of excellent Danish actors (Mads Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Søren Malling, and Nicolas Bro), whose portrayal of the completely unhinged brothers literally fascinated me, with some of them going somewhat against their acting nature. Viva (2015)

English I didn't expect much and got a good dose of emotions. I still can't get over how wonderfully Héctor Medina played Jesus. I can't even fathom that this was his film debut. Viva is a drama set in the environment of a travesty club in Havana, where Jesus works as a hairdresser and aspires to perform just like those for whom he prepares wigs. Just when it seems like he's about to break through as the new sensation "Viva," he's brought down to earth (literally and figuratively) by a punch from his father, whom he last saw when he was three years old. parent begins to make Jesus' daily life quite unpleasant, and just when Jesus decides he'll love him nonetheless, he discovers the cruel truth - his father returned only because he has only a few weeks left to live... The final scene, when Jesus capitalizes on the pain of the passing of a loved one during his performance on the stage of the travesty club, moved me to tears. The great Cuban music suited the story perfectly.

Waltz for Monica (2013)

English I like biopics, and I think Monica Z was pretty good. Edda Magnason portrayed Monica Zetterlund very believably. I'm glad to have learned something about this excellent jazz singer, although perhaps the alcohol escapades certainly amounted to more than what the creators have lightly outlined here. Her life was by no means easy. Simply beauty, talent, and fame do not guarantee anyone that with such a more than pleasant set of attributes, they will inevitably be happy. Musically, I have nothing to fault the film for, and I found that jazz sung in Swedish definitely has its charm, and in Monica's performance, it is also extremely sophisticated.

Like Crazy (2016)

English Two completely different women, both carrying a painful affliction in their hearts, meet in an insane asylum. Despite their initial unpleasant encounter, they gradually become friends and during a trip together, about ten inmates manage to escape from the hospital. Thus begins a slightly crazy road movie, in which both Beatrice and Donatella long to journey towards their lost happiness, each in their own slightly different way. Eventually, however, they are reunited at the psychiatric clinic. While there are a few humorous moments in the story, it's overall a very sad film about the fate of two broken women who, under the right alignment of stars, could actually be happy. (65%)

On the Milky Road (2016)

English An absolutely crazy love story set against the backdrop of a war conflict somewhere in the Balkans. That's just Emir Kusturica for you, and that's why I love him, including his beautiful scenery and amazing music. While there is some visual craziness here that might warrant a lower rating, like when the central couple flies down a waterfall, overall, I had a great time, and I think that's what really matters. Moreover, some of the situations depicted made me think more deeply. To be specific, what did the snake, which appears mostly in the tense moments of the film, actually symbolize? There are many ways to interpret this...

A Family (2010)

English An absolutely realistic family drama about the passing of a loved one. I know what I'm talking about because I have had my own personal painful experience. I also had a father who passed away from cancer, and while watching this film, it felt like I was experiencing déjà vu, especially during the last ten minutes. Even the reactions of individual family members were very similar to what I experienced. It should be noted that Jesper Christensen was incredibly believable as the dying father. In addition, Lene Maria Christensen is (after her great performance here) slowly becoming one of my favorite European actresses.
