Duell der Brüder - Die Geschichte von Adidas und Puma (2016) (TV movie)

English I don’t get the decision of German producers to film two very similar movies about the Dassler brothers within a single year. I’m, of course, talking about Rivals Forever - The Sneaker Battle. However, I’ve heard of this movie first and so I’ve been curious to see how they’re going to differ. In the end, I can’t say that either one is better or that the other is worse. They’re both very good. For example, this one has perfectly shot scenes from the end of the war when the Allies wanted to bomb the factory. But the other one explains everything in greater detail. They both have their upsides, but they’re very similar in quality.

Moka (2016)

English The perfect actress Emmanuelle Devos has decided to take on a French drama. Well, let’s say a French small-scale movie. The entire movie is carried out in the depressing spirit of the harsh reality of life that gives everyone a proper beating, but only some people are able put a stop to it. A classic example of a three-star movie that you’d appreciate way more on a movie festival than in the comfort of your own home.

Bad Cat (2016)

English It’s truly surprising that the Turks have filmed something so rude, vulgar, creepy and drunk. What’s more, it’s about a good-for-nothing cat who talks more than he does anything else. Just like that, the entire movie stars with a death of two cats. Really, it isn’t for kids, which is apparent from the very beginning. I truly don’t know what to think. On one hand, I’m fascinated that the Turks are trying to lean towards the Western culture, which I can only approve. On the other hand, it wasn’t really all that funny. But I have to admit that the story, environments and animations were definitely way better than the American counterpart Sausage Party.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

English The second one is just as good as the first one. In the first one, they take down John’s dog and so he goes on a killing spree. In this, he kills and leaves with his dog. The circle is complete. You won’t find any better easy-to-watch action movie nowadays.

A Royal Night Out (2015)

English The post-war mood is amazing. Then two crazy girls break into the celebrations and they can’t believe what’s going on around them. This movie seemed way too quirky and fun to be shot by the English.

Dumb and Dumber To (2014)

English I’ve avoided this sequel for a long time. Melancholic returns to such legendary works usually turn out to be way too melancholic. But it’s different this time since this movie perfectly distanced itself from the first one. The humor is where it’s lacking though. It’s often more cringy than funny. And that’s a lot considering Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey play the exact same two idiots as they did 20 years ago. But with movies, humor does it. Here, one funny moment is followed by two cringy ones. Which is a shame, but there’s nothing we can do about it.

Der Bulle von Tölz - Tod im Internat (1996) (episode)

English A standard episode that isn’t bad in any way. Benno investigates the case of a murdered boarding schoolgirl who gets hit by a car right at the beginning. The killer is obvious right away and so you enjoy the other characters, such as the principal who is absolutely absurd. However, the environments where this episode takes place are very beautiful and the tower of a castle right beneath the Alps is probably the prettiest of all.

Pyromaniac (2016)

English Pyromaniac is absolutely visually unparalleled. But Norway’s issue is that although similarly visually beautiful movies have a brilliant and precise premise, their characters are always lacking, and they are never conveyed the way that they’d deserve. The local pyromaniac is a shining example of a psychopath, but you don’t get to see inside of his mind. Although you are watching a breathtaking Norwegian landscape with a smoking log cabin, shack or a house every few minutes, what’s the point of it all if everything else is just a hollowed-out shell?

Hannah Arendt (2012)

English Hannah can be uncompromising and totally emotionless, but overall, she has one main goal – Adolf Eichmann who will probably keep her awake for the rest of her life. The director Margarethe von Trotta has fairly accurately shot the story of someone who wanted to destroy Eichmann in court. Live action scenes are complemented by real-life shots that can make your blood run cold at times. There are all sorts of people in the world and so I’m willing to believe that they can keep on surprising you throughout life. However, it’s a pity that the two hours of this movie dragged on quite a lot. I felt like the movie was trying to analyze Hanna and Adolf more than trying to tell a unique story. Even so, it’s a story about Nazi Germany that you need to know and watch.

The Shallows (2016)

English That CGI shark was really awesome. Basically, this takes the premise of the D-grade Mega Shark or the E-grade Sharknado, but it’s shot by a talented director and so it doesn’t even feel as stupid or boring.
