Men & Chicken (2015)

English The group surrounding director Anders Thomas Jensen isn’t alien to me. I have appraised all of his previous movies with five stars and so I counted on Men & Chicken to also be unorthodoxly funny. And it was. The director obviously leans strongly toward dark humor and even in The Green Butchers, it was really walking on the verge of tolerability. But I didn’t know then what this movie would bring. Men & Chicken mixes disgustingness with humor, which works in the movie, with the exception of a few scenes, but in my mind, I will always ask what insanity did I watch? The four stars don’t mean that the movie was worse than its predecessors. I only think that despite the number of absolutely brutal jokes, I probably don’t want to see this story ever again.

Red Dwarf - Season 10 (2012) (season)

English The initial excitement from this season was obvious. Even despite the fact that the first time I have watched the subtitled version, which was quite a shock for me. Then, I left this season to mature for four years, only so that I could get back to it and get excited about the 11th and 12th seasons, which will be here in no time. By the way, this time, I enjoyed it with dubbing. At that moment I realized that the dubbing really added a lot to it. Especially the magic of the past, which made me feel sixteen again, getting familiar with Red Dwarf for the first time from my couch. And even despite the fact that this season has a lot of weaker spots, where they are only talking, there are still episodes like Lemons and The Beginning, the first of which is the best Red Dwarf has ever offered, and the second one, for a change, showcases that this series definitely doesn’t belong to a graveyard. The remaining episodes are fillers, but they still managed to please me.

The Girl in the Book (2015)

English A completely useless story from the world of losers. For the whole hour and a half, I tried to concentrate at least on some character or grasp at least the basic story, but none of that was worth it, and I couldn’t even tell myself I was watching a mediocre movie.

Perro Guardián (2014)

English A solidly gloomy and pretty uncompromising crime movie that tries to bewitch you with the main character and an atypical Peruvian setting drenched with not only religious terror but also human filth. As a small-scale film, it’s good, but there were too many prayer beads and purgatories for the average human.

16 ans... ou presque (2013)

English While watching this movie, I remembered a plethora of stories of young, promising French guys, who, with joy, spraypaint on our historic buildings in Prague, and then the police have to scrape them off the roads in the middle of the St. Wenceslas square or they intentionally shove them so they would fall from the statue of St. Wenceslas.

American Horror Story - Coven (2013) (season)

English After a very solid second season, I thought I could give a chance to at least one more season of this series. So, it was the turn of witches and supposedly the weakest story of the whole series. Personally, I have to say that the beginning started off in a pretty promising way. The creators approached the story as a combination of snide Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and the good old Charmed. Just a bit rougher and, obviously, with a concept targeted mostly at the youth. Something along the lines of modern young adult stories. The only scary thing about the series is the theme song. Gradually, the story evolved in an unbelievably crazy way until it became nonsense and near the end, I was literally disgusted by it. Even so, I appreciate that the creators thought all the characters through completely and so you get answers for everything… and for everybody. I feel like that isn’t very common with series. Nevertheless, a pretty short range of 13 episodes allows for virtually anything.

True Story (2015)

English Thanks to this movie I discovered a few previously unknown things. For example, Jonah Hill is a complete rookie. I don’t believe he is likable. I didn’t believe he was in any previous movie and I don’t believe it now. But James Franco is a different story. He not only directs, operates the camera, and writes screenplays, but he also acts and does it brilliantly. The problem of this movie is the fact that it approaches the investigation of the murderer in a completely different way than is usual. It wants to convince the viewer that he isn’t a psychopath, but only a pawn that didn’t do anything. And even though I didn’t believe Jonah the whole movie, I still enjoyed that psycho character of his. In the finale, he completely killed it and salvaged this movie with his charisma.

Cyberbully (2015) (TV movie)

English As a person who was born into the era of the Internet, Cyberbully kept me on tenterhooks from the very beginning until the end. I admit that it was a bit over the top with the hacker, but on the other hand, the movie perfectly constructed a story that is uncertain from the start to the end. And the great Maisie Williams was, as the imaginary icing on the most brutal cake under the sun overshadowed by bullying, absolutely fantastic.

Stand by Me (1986)

English A bunch of youngsters who, a couple of years later, became normal actors, got together here in a pretty solid form and experienced a very extraordinarily ordinary adventure, which I will probably never forget. A great movie adventure done in the American way that reminded me of my childhood, which only adds to it. Nobody makes these ordinary children’s adventures anymore… a pity.

Superchondriac (2014)

English Dany Boon pretends to look as if he knew how to do humor. But here, it didn’t really work. And I actually enjoyed the movie Nothing to Declare. But here, the humor is a bit different and it didn’t sit well with me on a personal level, and it didn’t work in the moment. Maybe next time.
