English A very pleasant biopic with great actors, who are dominated mainly by Chadwick Boseman and also by Harrison Ford. The plot may not be the most original story ever, but on the other hand, the drive to change things, the positive atmosphere and the will to win simply overshadow the average nature of the story itself. You see the story follows the usual scheme: a talent gets discovered – initial success – misunderstanding – fall – rise from the ashes – perfect victory. But I didn’t mind it at all. It’s really pleasantly made and I’m glad that I finally know that somebody in the USA back then was trying to go against the rules and change something. And that’s worth appreciating.

45 Years (2015)

English A movie that’s based solely on the acting performance of Charlotte Rampling. I was basically only watching her, and only because I would have fallen asleep otherwise. The slow storytelling style didn’t work for me, especially since Charlotte could say anything that she needed to say with her eyes alone. Unlike the movie itself, which didn’t say anything at all.

47 Ronin (2013)

English My girlfriend was lured to this movie by Japanese mythology. I also found it interesting in the trailer. But then the local critics and reviewers showed up and showed everybody that 47 Ronin isn’t worth shit. I said to myself that either the database got it wrong, or maybe I was wrong so I went to see the movie. I was naturally pretty skeptical. In the end, however, I found out that the local wannabe professionals were wrong because what I got was a more-or-less good historical fantasy laced with Japanese mythology. I actually believe that Keanu Reeves made sure that the many Japanese samurai ideas were sifted for truth, which means there isn’t as much nonsense in this respect as one could expect from a Hollywood movie. But at the same time, you have to expect the fact that it’s fantasy. But I think that in essence this is a well-made movie. It has everything that a good movie should have. It has action, suspense, good direction, good camera work but also good acting performances. It’s actually all so good that you wouldn’t expect it, judging by the reviews here. That’s why I can only say one thing and that is that you should definitely go see this movie in a cinema because it deserves it. I had been skeptical, but I hadn’t been this wrong in a long time. 47 Ronin is a very well-made and interesting movie. If it had been made by Japanese filmmakers for Japanese audiences, it would have ended up with mediocre ratings. Nobody would have understood it. Here, the fact that it’s a Hollywood movie is actually for the better for the general public. But the question is whether people can appreciate that.

4 Days in May (2011)

English After a very long time, I finally lived to see a story from the Second World War which managed to knock me out completely. WWI and WWII can actually still tell stories that will make you stop dead in your tracks. During the war, anything was actually possible, which is one of the reasons this movie could be created. Honestly, I am surprised anybody from Russia actually acknowledged this film. If I were Russian, I would be embarrassed until my dying breath for what my nation did. But I understand it’s a problem of an individual. But when it comes to the Russians it doesn’t really matter. I don’t really want to spoil the movie here, but the first half of it sets a clear atmosphere that stagnated a bit in the expectation of the end of the war. The second part of the story came just in time and it really made me turn on all my senses at 1 AM, because everything happening there has crossed the lines of humanity and logic. This film might just be the weirdest one in the world cinematography because of the most absurd story ever made on the backdrop of the Second World War.

English The subject matter seems like a fun road movie and I haven’t seen Jean Reno in a movie in like a thousand years, but I’d be probably happier if Jean Reno didn’t play in this. Films of such a low quality do not go well with the rest of his filmography. Boredom and lack of jokes, sometimes leading to absolute vexation. This just didn’t turn out well.

English I will only accept this movie if Hřebejk admits that he made the movie just so he could let it screen in a small independent cinema here and there. Otherwise, it’s a huge viewer trap. Not only does such a premise not deserve a movie adaptation, but I also don’t think it has any significant telling value. Viewegh really showed us what’s inside his mind when he decided to write his first script on this very topic. Well, I have to say that if his next ideas are in a similar vein, then this is my last encounter with him.

50/50 (2011)

English A movie about life, about everyday reality, problems that need solving and about not surrendering life like it’s some stupid game of tag. 50/50 is a great movie, a brutal tear-jerker, but it was very pleasant to watch. Especially because of the actors who were being just the way I want to know them; being true to themselves and distinctive. Everything in this movie was the right fit and once again, I was able to watch a movie that results in a tremendous joy of life. And that’ll really lift your spirits…

54 (1998)

English A never-ending party in the 80’s. Ryan Phillipe is the right amount of sleazy and his character develops the way you would expect in such a movie. Personally, I have no understanding for drunks who spend all their time in pubs, and the people in this club are no different. You see, this club is a drug that activated all the other drugs for which I’ve never had the tiniest bit of understanding, and I never will. So, the movie left me baffled.

55 Steps (2017)

English A film concert of Helena Bonham Carter I don’t know what to think about. In this film based on a true story, the role was a perfect fit for this actress, and I think she was just playing herself. Given it’s a film about a court case, it was quite entertaining.

5 to 7 (2014)

English This is a melancholic romantic movie and it’s not only because we know today what happened to Anton Yelchin. However, having watched this movie, I’m literally sad that such a great actor had to depart so untimely. You see 5 to 7 has such a nice story and on top of that very strong dialogues. And since Bérenice Marlohe could mesmerize a man just by looking at him, everybody who likes good but sad stories from real life will find a little somethingto enjoy in this humble story. I also appreciate the ending, which is actually quite rough for a romantic movie. 5 to 7 might be an inconspicuous movie, but it will surprise you even more and it is definitely worth 90 minutes of everybody’s life.
