This is Scott's first film, it was shown on CT2 years ago, and even then it got me with its visual beauty and the wonderful villain role of Harvey Keitel. One of Scott’s best films.

When you realise Karel Zeman made his films on a shoestring, with minimal financial resources in the Gottwald-era, you just smile. He was a true genius.

František Vláčil’s last big film. The consolidating normalisation regime did not like him and for many years he could only make documentaries. What a shame!

A rather enjoyable prison drama in the vein of Escape from Alcatraz and Shawshank. Even the expected clichés like predictable developments and evil guards are bearable for some mysterious reason. Unfortunately, the last 15 minutes make the film a rather hard to believe fable, which is a shame. Otherwise, I would recommend my colleague Rady to visit a zoo to study the mimicry of primates, his comment about Stallone is a bit off, I would say. Sly played his part, and he played it believably and likeably.
