Biography

She was born and grew up in Romania, where she studied biology before training as a filmmaker. She has a Master in Film and Television Production and a doctorate in Critical Studies, both from the University of Southern California. She has participated in the Berlinale Talents, the Cinefondation Residency in Cannes, the Sundance Lab and the Torino Film Lab. She won a scholarship from the American Academy in Berlin. She has directed numerous short films, and formed part of the project Tales from the Golden Age (2009), part of the selection in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. Lemonade, her first feature film, premiered at the Berlinale and won the Best Director Award in Sarajevo.
