Biography

Alonso Ruiz Palacios (b. 1978, Mexico City) is a film and theater writer and director. He studied direction in his hometown and acting in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He has shot TV documentaries and dramas for various stations, worked with the Discovery and National Geographic channels, and contributed screenwriting talents to several TV series. For the theater he has staged plays by Shakespeare, Stoppard, and Chekhov. In 2008 he wrote and directed Café Paraíso, winning Mexico's annual Silver Ariel Award for Best Short Film before touring the festival circuit, including prestigious Clermont-Ferrand. He was awarded another Silver Ariel for his third short The Cú Bird's Last Song.
