Biography

One of the most distinguished Korean filmmakers of the new millennium, Bong Joon-ho (1969, Seoul, South Korea) studied at the Korean Film Academy for two years after he had completed his sociology studies. In 2000 he directed his first feature-length film, Barking Dogs Never Bite. His next film, Memories of Murder (2003) scored box-offi ce success as well as critical acclaim and won three awards at the IFF in San Sebastián. His third film, The Host, ranked among the biggest Korean blockbusters in 2006. His last fi lm, Mother (2009), was presented at the Cannes IFF as part of the Un Certain Regard section and harvested many international awards.
