Biography
Jaroslav Novotný (1903–1976), screenwriter, cameraman and director, studied to be a teacher. In Zlín, while teaching, he got engaged in film and dedicated his time to pioneering the genre of educational film, which he both established and popularized. He was later a director of Zlín Film Studios. He made a series of acclaimed educational and non-fiction films. He was involved in Baťa's commercial filmmaking and, later, worked on the films of the travelling duo Jiří Hanzelka and Miroslav Zikmund.
