Biography

Soviet film director and screenwriter. Graduated from the legal department of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Crimean Frunze University. Started his carreer in cinematography in 1926. Was assistant director at the Third Moscow film studio , assistant editor at the studio "Belgoskino". In 1935 he became the first Soviet dubbing director (American film The Invisible Man). Worked at "Belgoskino", "Lenfilm", Yalta and Kiev film studios, but the longest at the studio " Soyuzdetfilm " (now: M. Gorky Studio) . Member of the USSR Union of Cinematographers. People's Artist of the USSR (1966). Hero of Socialist Labor (1971), Winner of three Stalin Awards (1941, 1946 , 1948) and the USSR State Award (1968).
