Biography

Grímur Hákonarson graduated from FAMU (the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) in 2004. His graduation film, Slavek The Shit (2005), aroused international interest when it was selected by Cannes’ Cinéfondation before bagging twelve awards at film festivals like Chicago. His next short film, Wrestling, premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2007 and became one of Iceland’s most successful shorts ever after winning 25 awards at festivals across the world. In 2010 he made his feature debut with Edda-nominee Summerland, and after directing two documentary features he won the Un Certain Regard prize as well as the Golden Spike at the 60th Valladolid Festival for his feature-length Rams.
