Biography

Documentary filmmaker from Mexico whose filmic output is considered one of the most solid in the whole of Latin American cinema. His filmography includes Pulque Song (2003), Old Thieves: The Legend of Artegio (2007), El cielo abierto (2011), Drought (2011) and El Paso (2015): all screened and awarded at festivals like Berlin, IDFA, Toulouse, Locarno, Montreal, BAFICI, Sarajevo, Guadalajara, Valladolid and Morelia. His  film Devil’s Freedom (2017) received the Amnesty International Film Award at the Berlinale. In 2018 he directed A 3 Minute Hug, the first documentary film produced by Netflix in Latin America. In 2019 he collaborated with The New York Times’ Op-docs section with Emmy-nominated Children from the Narcozone.
