Biography

Born in the Parisian region, Claude Lanzmann (1925-2018) fought in the Resistance during the Second World War before studying philosophy at the Sorbonne and joining the journal Les Temps Modernes. He made his first documentary, Israel, Why, in 1973. Later on he realized his fundamental work Shoah (1985). Subsequently, he continued his research on Hebrew memory with Tsahal (1994) and The Last of the Unjust (2013). He received the Legion of Honor in 2006 and an honorary Golden Bear in Berlin in 2013. His last documentary was The Four Sisters, which was released on July 4, 2018.
