Originally hired by Columbia Pictures for his promotion talent, William Castle was an influential producer, who pioneered the use of gimmicks and advertising stunts, and a competent director of B–movies like Mysterious Intruder (1946) and House on Haunted Hill (1959). As a producer, he also worked on The Lady from Shanghai (1947) and Rosemary’s Baby (1968).
