Valentina Maurel studied Filmmaking at the INSAS in Brussels. Her graduation film, Paul is Here, received first prize in the Cinéfondation section of the Festival de Cannes in 2017. Her second short film, Lucía en el limbo, was presented in the Semaine de la Critique at the French event as well as at Toronto Festival, and landed first prize at the Guanajuato Festival (Mexico). The project for Tengo sueños eléctricos was selected in 2020 with the title of Jardín en llamas for Proyecta in San Sebastian. The film is her feature film debut and received the Best Director, Best Actress and Best Actor Awards at the Locarno Festival.
