Biography

Martin Asphaug is a veteran in the field of film and television, starting his career as a scriptwriter in the early eighties. He directed his first short film, Essay, in 1986, and made his debut as a feature film director with the award-winning and critically hailed A Handfull of Time in 1989, which among several other accolades garnered Asphaug the Norwegian Cinema Administrators Association's Silver Nugget award for Best Picture.

Since then he has directed several other feature films in both Norway and Sweden, including the hit youth film Lethal Lies (1992), of the Pelle & Proffen series, and The Crossing (2004). He has also directed several major television series', including the extremely popular swedish dramas High Seas (1992-2002) and The Coastal Doctor (1997-2000). In 2002 Asphaug also directed the short film The Passengers, as part of the award-winning portmanteau film Utopia - Nobody is Perfect in the Perfect Country.
