Biography

The debut film from Alejandro González Iñárritu, Amores Perros (Love's a Bitch, 2000), received the Grand Prix at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes and an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film. In 2003 he directed 21 grams, earning Sean Penn the Volpi Cup in Venice. Babel (2006) landed him the Best Director Award in Cannes, where Javier Bardem bagged Best Actor in 2010 for Biutiful. Birdman (2014) competed in Venice and won the Best Film, Director, Original Screenplay and Cinematography Awards. He won the Academy Award for Best Director once again with The Revenant (2015), which also harvested those for Best Director, Actor (Leonardo di Caprio) and Cinematography. Bardo, Falsa crónica de unas cuantas verdades (Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths) competed in Venice.
