Acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami was born in Tehran and graduated from the College of Fine Arts and worked initially in graphics and advertising. He made his feature debut in 1974, and won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Taste of Cherry in 1997. His filmography includes Where Is the Friend's Home? (1987), Shirin (2008), and Certified Copy (2010).
