Elia Suleiman

Elia SULEIMAN (1960, Israel) lived in New York from 1981 to 1993 where he directed his first two short films. He settled down in Jerusalem and in 1996 directed his first feature film Chronicle of a Disappearance. It won the Best First Film Prize at the Venice Film Festival. Divine Intervention (2002) was awarded the Jury and the FIPRESCI Prize in Cannes, as well as the Best Foreign Film Prize at the European Film Awards in Rome. His last feature film, The Time That Remains (2009), was screened in the Cannes Film Festival in Competition. In 2012, his short film Diary of a Beginner - part of the omnibus film 7 Days in Havana - was in the Un Certain Regard selection in Cannes. Since 2013, Elia Suleiman has been artistic advisor to the Doha Film Institute.
