Helena de Llanos

Helena de Llanos

Born 1983
Madrid, Spain

Biography

Her audiovisual work oscillates between documentary and fiction. She has made films that address a variety of subjects and characters, from the rise to power of Bolivia’s president Evo Morales, analysed from a gender perspective in La mitad de todo (2012), to a group of esparto grass workers in an old factory in southern Spain in Nos llaman las estereras (2013). She has always been interested in the intersection between cinema and art, citizen participation in cultural creation, and memory. Until 2016 she remained a member of the Cine sin Autor collective. Since then, she has been active in researching and organising the written, theatrical and cinematographic work of Fernando Fernán Gómez and Emma Cohen through a multidisciplinary project that includes, among other works, the short film ¿Nos hablan los muertos? (2019) and which culminates with Journey to Somewhere.
