Biography

Having debuted with Kinetta (2005), Yorgos Lanthimos achieved international acclaim with his second work, Kynódontas (Dogtooth, 2009), winner of the Un Certain Regard and Youth awards at Cannes and nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award. Two years later, Alps (2011) would win the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay at Venice. In 2015 The Lobster, his first film in English, landed the Jury Prize at Cannes and an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay. With The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) he returned to Cannes, where he won the Best Screenplay award. The Favourite (2018) landed the Grand Jury Prize at Venice and the Best Actress Volpi Cup for Olivia Colman, who also won the Academy Award.
