Ignacio López Tarso

After finishing high school in 1949 he entered the Bellas Artes Drama School and studied under Xavier Villaurrutia, Salvador Novo, Celestino Gorostiza, Clementina Otero, Fernando Torre Laphane and Francisco Monterde. During his 65 year career he has performed in over 100 plays including: Oedipus The King by Sophocles; Hyppolytus by Euripides; Macbeth, Othello and King Lear by Shakespeare; The Miser by Moliere; Cyrano de Bergerac; Una Hoguera al Amanecer; the musical Hello Dolly!; El Villano en su Rincón by Lope de Vega; Dracula; Oedipus in Colonus by Sophocles; Cartas de Amor; El Alcalde de Zalamea by Calderón de la Barca; The Odd Couple by Niel Simon; 12 Angry Men; El de la Triste Figura; Macario; Elsa and Fred; The Tempest; The Postman. He has been directed by Xavier Rojas, Salvador Novo, Celestino Gorostiza, Álvaro Custodio, Ignacio Retes, Seki Sano, Alejandro Jodorowski, José Solé, Rafael López Miarnau, José Luis Ibáñez, Salvador Garcini, Juan Morán, Enrique Pineda, José Elías Moreno, Eduardo Ruiz Saviñon, among others. He has performed in 50 films including Macario, El Hombre de Papel, El Gallo de Oro, La Vida Inútil de Pito Pérez, Nazarín, La Cucaracha, Tarahumara, La Rosa Blanca, Bajo el Volcán, Tirano Banderas, Pedro Páramo, etc. Some of the directors he has worked with are Luis Buñuel, Roberto Gavaldón, Ismael Rodríguez, Julio Bracho, Luis Alcoriza, Jorge Fons, John Huston, Miguel Sabido. His television career includes over 1,000 programs, series and drama series, including La Tormenta, El Carruaje, Senda de Gloria, Imperio de Cristal, Esmeralda, Angela, La Casa en la Playa, La Esposa Virgen, Peregrina, El Pantera, Mañana es para Siempre, Mar de Amor, El Encanto Del Águila, Corazón Indomable. He has worked with directors such as Luis Aragón, Salvador Novo, Raúl Araiza, Martha Luna, Beatriz Sheridan, Karina Dupréz, Roberto Gómez Fernández, Lilí Garza, Arturo García Tenorio, Eric Morales, Miguel Córcega, Gustavo Loza, Alejandro Gamboa, Salvador Garcini, Benjamín Cann, José Angel García, Mafer Suárez. Ignacio López Tarso has received over 200 national and international awards for his work in the theater, film and television, and he has worked in a number of countries such as Spain, the United States, Cuba, Peru, Santo Domingo, Colombia, San Salvador, etc. He also participated in the music industry recording 8 LPs with 100 corridos. He has been Chairman of the Board of A.N.D.I., General Secretary of the A.N.D.A. and the STPC, Federal Congressman for the 8th Mexico City District, member of the National Board for Culture and the Arts since 1989, and member of the R.T.C. Commission for Mexico City and Culture.
