Biography

Harris Savides was well known for his acclaimed collaborations with director Gus Van Sant, notably the "trilogy" of GERRY, ELEPHANT and LAST DAYS, as well as the Academy Award nominated MILK, GREENBERG and FINDING FORRESTER. He also twice teamed up with David Fincher, working with the filmmaker on ZODIAC and THE GAME. Other credits include Woody Allen's WHATEVER WORKS, Ridley Scott's AMERICAN GANGSTER, Noah Baumbach's MARGOT AT THE WEDDING, Jonathan Glazer's BIRTH, James Gray's THE YARDS, and the Martin Scorsese short film THE KEY TO RESERVA. He was a five-time Independent Spirit Award nominee and was named Best Cinematographer by the New York Film Critics for his work on GERRY and ELEPHANT.

A native New Yorker, Savides started his career in Europe as a fashion photographer. Upon returning home, Savides started shooting commercials and music videos, eventually becoming a three-time MTV Music Video Award winner for Best Cinematography for Madonna's "Rain," R.E.M's "Everybody Hurts," and Fiona Apple's "Criminal." His work has received recognition from the Clio Awards and Music Video Producers Association, and in addition, two of the videos he shot are part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art.
