Biography

Ned Benson (b 1977, New York) went to Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts before studying film and English at Columbia University, from which he graduated in 2001. He has written and directed four shorts: Four Lean Hounds (2003), The Westerner (2010), Yes (2011) and Citation (2012). He is also a playwright (e.g. Remission). His feature debut, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, played at last year's Toronto IFF in two parts (totaling 190 minutes), and both needed viewing to get an integrated impression of the story. The part entitled Him tells of the man's efforts to reunite with his beloved yet estranged wife, while Her deals with the woman's attempts to find herself again. A re-edited and combined version of the two screened in Un certain regard at the Cannes IFF with the secondary title Them.
