Tough guy Thomas Beckett is an US soldier working in the Panamanian jungle. His job is to seek out rebels and remove them using his sniper skills. Beckett is notorious for losing his partners on such missions. This time he's accompanied by crack marksman Richard Miller, who's more of an office-type. Together they plan to seek out an important rebel leader, whilst avoiding a rogue marksman who frequents this part of the jungle. (TriStar Pictures)

English In the climax, Luis Llosa managed to rouse some emotions and suspense in his audience thanks to the cathartic annihilation of the villains. If I had seen Sniper at the time of its release, I might have given it an extra star. Today, however, Sniper looks faded, sometimes boring and, most importantly, shows all of the shortcomings of its B-movie nature, topped off with horribly artificial music by Gary Chang. The Rambo movies had Sylvester Stallone, proper pacing and Jerry Goldsmith’s unforgettable musical motifs. This is just a second-rate copy. ()

English In 1993, was it possible to see slow motion shots of a bullet? Well, that is definitely something you don't see every day. And yet, it actually works for those crazy people. The story about the sniper in the jungle is quite ordinary, but the overall concept and the effort to come up with something new caught my attention. Therefore, I give it a higher rating. Maybe someone will notice and agree with me. ()
