A 1968 Italian comedy about a Sicilian woman, Assunta Patanè (Monica Vitti), who after being kidnapped by mistake by a Sicilian gang and "dishonored" by the gang's leader, Vincenzo Macaluso (Carlo Giuffrè), travels to England with a pistol intending to murder him. Along the way she becomes a beautiful and glamorous modern lady. When the lover reappears to claim his "rights," she realizes the sweeter revenge than killing him is to dump him instead. Stanley Baker co-stars as an English doctor who tries to help her. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. (Cinemax)
