English A beautiful story with a similar depth to The Prince of Tides. Not surprisingly, Jane Smiley's novel of the same name, published in 1992, was so successful that it won her a Pulitzer Prize. Personally, I was quite disappointed by the inspiration in "King Lear," and I wouldn't have looked for anything like that in it because I was almost hoping for a certain level of autobiography. However, the film version has no flaws, and features riveting performances by Jessica Lange and Michelle Pfeiffer, with great cinematography and an aftertaste of irreversible fate that lingers long after the end credits.
