English A quite interesting approach, where the classic Dickens is transposed into the contemporary setting, and surprisingly, it actually works, mainly thanks to Ethan Hawke who manages to carry the entire film, making it work. Gwyneth is more of an unattainable presence here; her role isn't as significant as one might think. ()

English Alfonso Cuarón has talent as a director and manages to give each of his films a distinctive signature. It is no different here, with the help of excellent actors and a great source material. ()

English I would very much like to go look at the mud, fall in love with Finnegan, drink from a fountain, and embark on a difficult journey of life side by side. But my involvement in the plot only happened in a single scene, while painting Estella's acts. This passage most brilliantly showcases all three strengths that Great Expectations has: Gwyneth's beauty, Cuarón's life direction, and the precise mood soundtrack. Although I am not familiar with the original, I cannot watch a cast of characters where no one is without worries, an unclear past, or problematic adolescence. So I will leave everyone to their hopes and desires, but I will try my luck elsewhere. ()
