Cady Heron is a cultural blank slate when she first sets foot on the grounds of North Shore High School in a small town outside of Chicago, Illinois. After living in Africa, Cady, now a junior, has no idea how "wild" things can be in civilization until she crosses paths with one of the meanest species of all, the "Queen Bee," who at this particular high school is the cool and calculating Regina George. But Cady doesn't just cross paths with this Queen Bee--she really stings her when she falls for Regina's ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels. Now Regina is set to sting back by pretending to still like Aaron so he won't go out with Cady, all the while pretending to be her friend. With no choice but to use the same M.O. to stay in the game, the "Girl World" one-upmanship escalates until the entire school gets dragged into a first-class mean-fest. The first hour is a seriously good teen comedy with no toilet humor and several gags that work. Unfortunately, afterwards it turns into something we’ve seen a thousand times already and so you quickly forget the impression it initially makes. But still, thanks to Lindsay Lohan who doubtlessly has a little comic talent, it is watchable without being any health hazard. ()
When you like a teenage romantic comedy, admit it, don't be ashamed of your opinion, and don't make the excuse that it's a parody when it's not. Occasionally, there may be a rather harsh joke, but everything is ultimately resolved peacefully, so supporters of the genre can't say anything against it. And even though Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams do a good job, it doesn't change the fact that I've seen everything in various versions elsewhere and the script lacks any more original situation that would surprise me. In this tiresome presentation, you can't rely on proven clichés. Tina Fey's clever humor still needed some polishing. ()
A mostly enjoyable made comedy outing with a likrable cast and more than one humorous scene that works best on first viewing, but I still like to come back to this film from time to time. The antics of the Damian-Janis duo, the endearingly awkward teacher played by Tina Fey, the obscure mother with Amy Poehler's face, the dead bride scene, the heartfelt confessions of wronged students, the various pranks against Regina, the Christmas pageant, etc., that's the list of funny sequences offered by this high school classic. At first glance, an average movie that, on the other hand, does not tire even with repeated tastes. ()
It is indeed incredible bollocks, but quite entertaining and, in the current trend of similar comedies, more or less on point. Lindsay Lohan is charming and does have something special. The jokes and gags work well in most cases, and the few awkward scenes get lost. It's a pity about the ending, which unfortunately undermines the whole film. By the way, Lizzy Caplan delivers a completely brilliant performance in the role of the sassy Janis. In the current mainstream of transoceanic comedies, it could possibly be considered slightly above average, benefiting primarily from a relatively dynamic direction and restrained acting performances. I asked myself, what could surprise me about this comedy that is considered by many to be absolutely great? It surprised me right from the beginning when I found out that Tina Fey wrote the screenplay and also played one of the teacher roles. I understand to some extent what she meant with the film, essentially a comedy with a moral message, but unlike similar movies, it has something extra that works here. It's the humor that is genuinely funny at times. Some scenes, as if they were written for her colleagues from Saturday Night Live, where she was the main writer for a long time, are like gags. That woman has humor in her blood and she managed to get something out of a topic that is so worn out - an innocent girl ends up in a school full of mean girls - meaning bitches - and it's up to her how she behaves. Simply a story about how a beautiful closed-off girl becomes a nasty and vulgar girl who eventually... But no, I won't deprive you of revealing the ending. Lindsay Lohan surprised me in this movie, playing the good/bad girl, and not only did it suit her, but she simply fit into that role. What happened to her later... it's a pity to talk about it. I prefer Rachel McAdams in her other movies. Although the moral message is quite exaggerated, it can be handled and in the end, one leaves the movie quite satisfied.
