One evening Dóczi is kissing Vera, the wife of his work brigade mate Sajek, in the gate of a house in Angyalföld. They decide to admit their affair the following day. A new man is assigned to the Cirok-brigade, but Boldizsár is not accepted by the others. Sajek is the fugleman, warning that their salaries will be cut. When the shift ends, they go into a public bar where they are dismayed at the sight of Dóczi and Vera sitting together in private. Sajek harshly attacks Dóczi: he has done his best and obtained as much money as possible, and still, he can not have any prerogatives. The following morning Vera announces her intention to marry Dóczi. While Cirok is wondering that it was a pity to give a lesson to the young man, a piece of scaffolding falls onto Boldizsár.
