Peter, a married psychotherapist, and Suzanne have been engaged in an affair where they must abide by the rules. For a Jesús Franco movie, Eugenie is surprisingly well filmed and edited! What’s more, it was made in a beautiful, atmospheric location on a deserted island surrounded by ocean mist. It’s thus even more regrettable how modest the director is about sex and deviancy, and how he himself doesn’t know what he wants to say in the final resolution. The subtle, seductive scent of forbidden fruit is present, but you will be far from reaching orgasm. Much farther than with his “best” films. And that’s a shame, because this subject could have been brewed into a different cup of tea.
