Kawaguchi City in Saitama, known for its ironworks, has many smelting chimneys called the Cupola. Jun’s father is a traditional iron worker, who is laid off when his small factory merged with a larger firm. Unable to adjust to new technologies, he loses income – with no money in the house, the family go their separate ways. After some rough times for each member of the family, they are reunited with the help and support of those around them. (Nikkatsu)
