Charlie, a tramp rescues Edna from crooks who try to steal money from her, and as a reward he is given a job on her father's farm. Charlie cheerfully complies, watering the trees with a can and using the cow's tail as a pump to extract the milk. The crooks try to persuade Charlie to act as inside man so they can rob the farm, but he lies in wait for them with a mallet. The farmer chases them off and Charlie gets accidentally shot in the leg. He is nursed by the girl and dreams of a future with her until her sweetheart arrives. He leaves her a note and walks off into the distance, heartbroken. (official distributor synopsis)
